The holidays are all about laughter, joy, and a touch of playful mischief—so what better way to capture that spirit than with a custom stone coaster that says, “Let’s Be Naughty & Save Santa the Trip”?
This was a project born out of the desire to create something unique, meaningful, and downright hilarious for a friend who loves collecting Santa-themed items. I wanted to give her a gift she couldn’t just casually pick up at the store, something that added a bit of rebellious fun to her collection.
The Idea Behind the Coaster
The phrase is a cheeky nod to holiday traditions, with just enough humor to make it a conversation starter. Perfect as a gift, a personal keepsake, or even as part of your holiday décor, this coaster combines functionality with a playful twist. Not only does it protect your surfaces from those inevitable coffee rings during holiday gatherings, but it also adds a spark of personality to your table.
Designing the Santa
The design process started in Canva, where I created a custom Santa illustration and paired it with bold, eye-catching typography. Once the design was complete, I exported it as a black-and-white SVG file, which is ideal for laser engraving.
The Creation Process
Here’s a step-by-step look at how I brought this naughty Santa coaster to life using my X1 Machine:
Step 1: Preparing the Coaster
- I selected a high-quality stone coaster as the base for the engraving.
- The coaster was carefully placed onto the honeycomb of the laser, ensuring it was flat and securely aligned.
Step 2: Setting the Laser Parameters
- Using XCS (X1 Control Software), I selected the material type as “Rock Coaster.”
- For this project, I set the power to 30% and the speed to 100, which provided the perfect balance for a deep, clean engraving without damaging the stone.
Step 3: Engraving the Design
- After loading the SVG file into the software, I previewed the design to confirm alignment and scale.
- With everything in place, I started the engraving process and monitored it to ensure everything ran smoothly.
Step 4: Finishing Touches
- Once the engraving was complete, I carefully removed the coaster from the machine.
- Any dust or residue was wiped away with a damp cloth, revealing the crisp and detailed design.
Why This Coaster is Special
This coaster isn’t just a practical item—it’s a gift with personality. It’s ideal for:
- Santa lovers who enjoy a humorous twist.
- Holiday décor enthusiasts looking for unique accents.
- Gift-giving occasions where laughter and thoughtfulness collide.
The durability of the stone ensures it will last through many holiday seasons, and the design makes it a standout piece in any collection.
The Recipient’s Reaction
When I gave this to my friend, they couldn’t stop laughing. They loved how it combined their love for Santa-themed items with a bit of humor. It was the perfect addition to their growing collection and a gift that felt truly one-of-a-kind.

If you’re looking for a unique and thoughtful holiday project, creating a custom coaster like this is a fantastic idea. Not only is it practical, but it’s also a way to show off your creativity and give someone a gift they’ll treasure (and chuckle over) for years to come.
